The turtles you snorkel with at São Pedro are green turtles, which feed in the bay's shallows and are used to calm snorkelers. Cape Verde as a whole is one of the most important loggerhead nesting grounds on earth, but the loggerheads nest mainly on the eastern islands of Boa Vista, Sal and Maio, not on the São Vicente snorkel.
